Weekly Tarot Energy Reading

February 9, 2026

Another run of three reversed, and two upright cards! But as I put the deck down after drawing these cards, I saw that there was a single, face-up card peeking out of the stack. So I’m treating it like a jumper, and it’s influential.

The cards:

  • 8 of Pentacles
  • Knight of Pentacles, reversed
  • Temperance, reversed
  • 7 of Cups, reversed
  • The Emperor

Of note, right off the bat, Temperance is reversed again. This is important because she was reversed in the Full Moon reading for this month. Temperance is about the ability to take a middle path, and be content with it, when the path to our right or left feels extreme or hard to commit to. Temperance counsels that there is nothing wrong with saying, when our options are difficult, that we choose instead to wait until there is enough information to help us feel solid about our ability to make a good decision. Temperance says we can read the post, and not actually have to click thumbs up or down on it before scrolling along.

But this appearance of Temperance is reversed. So we may feel pressured and forced into a choice we don’t like.

Similarly reversed, and not offering us any help? Knight of Pentacles, who won’t have any luck finding things to take care of in the area of food, money, and shelter. And 7 of Cups – what a weirdo!!! – is reversed, and so he can’t fool around with us. That’s actually good, since 7 of Cups tends to rattle our emotions in order to get a response.

It’s a no-reaction reaction, from these reversed cards. No progress on physical matters, feeling a bit flat emotionally, and fending off those who demand we declare allegiance, one way or the other.

Leaving us these heroes, the 8 of Pentacles and the Emperor, and what a weird but welcome pair they make! The 8 of Pentacles did not want the Knight of Pentacles riding into his business anyway, to be honest. The 8 of Pentacles wants to be left alone to do what he is good at. He is a craftsman, an energy that is good with food, money, and shelter.

“No, for the last time, I do NOT want an addition built onto my house for extra storage, or to go out and pull stumps from the old field so I can grow the corn for the new addition, and I sure as hell am not interested in buying a new calf,” says 8 of Pentacles, who has answered the door in his carpenter’s apron and has a hammer in one hand. “I’m finishing this commission and I’d thank you to let me get back to it.”

And whammo, he slams the door in the Knight of Pentacle’s face, sending the knight and his reversed-position, overambitious, ill-considered ideas back out to sulk somewhere.

The 8 of Pentacles knows that his immediate, present-moment work is more important and ultimately more lucrative than tying up with some stranger and their big ideas. And he doesn’t even want a cow. He can buy all the milk he needs.

You’d not pair up the Emperor with the 8 of Pentacles, but they are harmonious in their thinking, and their approaches. An Emperor is full-up of stuff. He has an empire to run, not an empire to build. Building empires is for kings. Managing empires is for Emperors.

And like the 8 of Pentacles, the Emperor is very earthy and physical. He works with what is immediately demanding his attention, and a good emperor is skilled at that. (A bad emperor doesn’t last very long.) Like the 8 of Pentacles, things in this domain – when running properly – may even threaten to get a bit boring and routine.

If it gets boring, you just pick up and go visit another palace. Or you find that cabinet you began last winter, and rework it with fresh ideas.

What does all this mean for us? It’s a metaphor, unless you actually do have another residence or a woodworking hobby. This is a good week to continue focusing on what is going well, and is well in hand, in your life. It is not a good week to take up a new cause or pick a side.

And the jumper? Well whaddya know, the Empress has come out to join the Emperor, and no doubt she has noticed that he forgot to order refreshments for their guest, and now she will bring forth a lovely spread of yummy snacks, along with whatever the 8 of Pentacles prefers; wine or beer? The Empress never has an empty pantry; she is always well supplied.

8 of Pentacles will wish he had thought to bring something, maybe a nice little jewelry chest or a custom frame for the current map of the empire.

8 of Pentacles shouldn’t worry, though. This couple already owns fifty-eleven boxes and frames. What they are more interested in is how he’s managing his business, if he is thriving in the empire, and if he is satisfied with what he’s got.

Don’t be baited into fights with crazy people, forced into activities that don’t serve you, or pressured into joining causes this week. And especially don’t be tempted because you are bored; there is absolutely something close at hand, something personal and meaningful to you, to engage your attention.

Your inner Emperor and Empress are pleased with what you are doing. Work with what you have and be conscious of how you are managing it, and you’ll have a good chance at holding a quiet center in a noisy world.
