New Moon Energy Reading

Here comes the New Moon, and if you want to stay conscious of its opportunities to bring novel ideas and growth into your life, take some time during the next two weeks to note down or think about what interests you, what you would like to bring into your life, and how a sidetrack from the regular and customary might actually be fun and give you a lift.

During the New Moon phase, we would do well to entertain all the daydreams, fun ideas, imaginative ramblings, and out-of-the-box ponderings we can think up. You never know, when you load your consciousness up with these things, which will actually be deemed appropriate. The Full  Moon, when it arrives, might just shine a light on it and give you big green light to proceed.

It’s a seed-then-harvest lunar frequency that supports our growth, and we (mostly) never even think about it.

Our cards for the New Moon are:

  • King of Cups reversed
  • 5 of Wands
  • The Fool
  • The Devil reversed
  • Queen of Wands reversed

Oh man, I have to note that we have both a king and a queen reversed. As I read them, kings are extroverted energy and queens are introverted energy; meaning, they balance each other and while the king is the active, out front guy, the queen is hustling behind the scenes to make sure the structure can support him. Nothing works properly unless both are working together to make a whole.

So to have this pair show up reversed – I don’t like it. That’s an immediate absence of masculine and feminine balance and skill sets.

And The Devil is also reversed; sloppy, sloppy. It doesn’t mean, to me, that there is no Devil energy of hiding behind secrets present in the reading. Rather, it is the somehow more disheartening realization that there is no energy to even conceal the secrets. They are on full display because nobody cares if they are revealed. YIKES. And, GROSS.

What are we supposed to do when there is nobody running the show, and the dial is set to “shameless?”

This leaves us with the strongest card in the reading, and a hard choice. Because The Fool card is never transactional, our Fool never has an “if this, then that” narrative. The Fool’s energy is completely free of any awareness of give and take, conditional love, or consequences. The Fool is unburdened by the expectations or requirements of others, striding ahead joyfully and present in the moment.

The 5 cards? They are the complete opposite; they are the turning point in a story, which means we are confronted with what we have done, and what it has created or meant. We are forced, with five energy, to make a decision based on results so far. “If…I do nothing, then this.” Or, “If…I make a change, then this.”

I read this spread as saying, “This has obviously not worked, and in fact, it has made things worse; so I have to change. And that change has to absolutely clear my decks and leave me free to walk forward with no baggage.”

It’s a big one, this moon. And a chance to get out from under some stuff we can no longer manage successfully.

Questions for Journaling or Reflection

What novel ideas, daydreams, or “sidetracks from the regular and customary” am I being invited to explore right now?

Where in my life do I currently feel an absence of healthy masculine/feminine balance (active/outer energy vs. supportive/behind-the-scenes energy)?  What would it look like to restore that partnership so both parts of me can work together again?

What situations or patterns have clearly not worked and have even made things worse?  Based on results so far, what decision do I need to make, and what baggage must I clear so I can walk forward freely like The Fool?

Where might “shameless” or fully exposed and unflattering dynamics be operating in my life right now, and how can I respond with conscious choice instead of continuing to let them run unchecked?
