- The Reading
- Thinking About the Reading: Questions for Journaling or Reflection
We have a New Moon this week, on Thursday, so it might behoove you to wrap up any ongoing projects, pick up the scattered pieces and throw them back into the right box, and stow everything in the overhead compartment. Then you will be ready to greet the New Moon’s energy with a blank slate, on which the moon can write all sorts of new ideas, information, insights, and inspiration to mull over and let percolate.
No, you don’t have to buy into this fully, but indulge me. Isn’t that suggestion more fun than just slogging through some regular old week? Speaking of which, our cards:

- 8 of Pentacles reversed
- 7 of Wands
- Knight of Cups
- 7 of Swords
- Knight of Swords
Holy moly, this is exciting; double sevens and double knights?!
But before that, let’s look at what this week is not: it is not an 8 of Pentacles week. He’s unplugged so don’t expect to take up your tasks with the experienced, rhythmic precision that invites comfortable familiarity or numbing boredom. It won’t be business as usual.
Anytime we have a seven, it is perfectly fine to gasp, “Aaaaaaaaack!!!!” in alarm. All sevens should be addressed this way, they are weird and tricky and sometimes reflect the shadowiest parts of ourselves. Seven is a divine number and the Divine does not play by our rules. (Can I mention again how the rules were off the table when we got that reversed 8 of Pentacles, anyway? So these double sevens are reinforcing that pronouncement.)
Wands are the exciting and wonderful extras we bring into our lives. We don’t need them like we need food, money, and shelter to stay alive (Pentacles.) Wands, when managed well, are benefits and joys. When we overload ourselves or skew our perceptions of what Wands mean to us, they are burdensome and hard to handle.
Swords represent our communications. When seven energy infuses our communications, we let everything come out of our mouths before editing, because there is an element of Divine energy that thinks it is hilarious when we reveal what we are actually thinking. (Hilarious because the Divine knows this ultimately leads to authenticity, even if the Divine enjoys seeing us slip on a banana peel on the way.)
7 of Wands shows us backed into a corner, overloaded with Wands that we thought we could handle all by ourselves. 7 of Swords is a matter of having to defend ourselves when our own language has created so many conflicting narratives, it seems like we no longer have any friends at all.
“How is this a great week ahead,” you are now wondering, slightly baffled.

The knights are hard working energies, and when they have a clear purpose they do a wonderful job racing in and helping us manage situations. We are assured that if we wander off the well-trod path this week (that reversed 8 of Pentacles again,) we will have help to get things cleaned up.
Knight of Swords, obviously, is dispatched from Swords HQ to resolve our bad communications. The Knight of Cups will come with his ability to soothe hurt feelings and restore harmony between friends.
That’s the goal, at least, but these knights can only work in the parameters you set for them; will your Knight of Swords race in with no strategy? Do you expect him to smite your enemies?
Do you want to turn the Knight of Cups loose with no agenda? No, please. He’ll get so deep in his feelings that he’ll churn helplessly and make things worse.
Both of the knights could make things worse. So it is up to us to figure out where we’ve gone off track this week, and how insightful, direct, truthful communication could right it. We will also have to triage the Wands situation, and let our Knight of Cups energy go where it is most needed first, and work our way out.
With both of these knights, if we tackle our biggest, most painful problem first in a genuine and authentic way, the rest will seem easy. It will take some out-of-the-box thinking (remember the reversed 8 of Pentacles won’t let us do it the customary way) and a willingness to ask for help.
The potential, though, is to get some truly thorny issues resolved and put behind us. That’s the opportunity and the gift in those crazy seven cards; if we run toward them instead of away, very good things can ultimately come out of it.
Questions for Journaling or Reflecting:
Where in my life am I still trying to handle things with the an outdated approach and finding I get fewer, or no, results? What could I try differently this week?
Which overloaded “Wands” (extra commitments, passions, or expectations) or messy communications feel like they’ve backed me into a corner? If I ran toward the biggest, most painful one first with clear, truthful words and a willingness to ask for help, where might I have a breakthrough?
As the New Moon approaches, what unfinished pieces, scattered projects, or lingering conflicts am I ready to wrap up or release so I can meet the new energy with a clearer slate—and what fresh insight or inspiration might that make room for?
